資料を見ないで描けますか？ Can you draw illustrations without image pictures?

「図鑑」を見て形を覚えながら描く

前の記事の本に出会ってから、"形を覚えるトレーニング"を始めました。

イラストの仕事で、

「飛行機描いて下さい」

と単純ならネットで写真（→本当の形を知る為）やイラスト（→省略して描く場合の参考）をいくつか検索してプリントアウトし、それを参考にラフ画を描いていましたが、

「飛行機にまたがった中年男性がオフィス街上空を飛んでいるイラストをナルハヤ（なるべくはやく）で描いて下さい」

となると、①飛行機の参考写真とイラスト、②飛行機の頭と同じ方向を向きつつ何かにまたがってる人の参考写真、③中年男性のイラストや写真（②と③が合体していると助かる）、④上空からオフィス街を俯瞰したイラストや写真

など何点かを急いでサムネイル状にして印刷しなければ描けませんでした。
そして急いでる時にプリンタって混んでいたり、詰っていたりするんですよね。

描くスピードがある事は仕事で結構大切なので、イラストを仕事にしている人は"形を覚えるトレーニング"はやっておいたほうがいいと思います。

「描いたけれど、もう形覚えてないな～」

と思うときもあるけれど、こういうのって記憶のどこかにしまわれているように感じるんですよね。
外国の方と英語で話している時にフと単語を思い出す事があったり、昔見た絵を数十年後に覚えていたので、希望を持ちつつ取り組みたいと思っています。

After read the book,(←sorry, it's Japanese) I started "Shape memorize training" to increase drawing speed.

When I receive illustration orders like "Please draw air plane",

I begin to search photos(→ to understand real shape) & illustrations(→ to know abbreviatied  shape) for documents on PC. 

This is simple order. 

But if I take order like this, It's take more time.
"Please draw middle-aged men who sit astride(Not "get on" but "ride".) on air plane and fly over business district"

I have to search ①air plane  photos (& illustrations) ②"astride on pose photo" that headed in the same direction as air plane ③middle-aged men photos (& illustrations) ( If I come across ②＋③ image, so lucky! ) ④bird's-eye view of business district photos(& illustrations) 

finished search images, I make thumbnail it hurry and print. But when we were in hurry, printer is often jammed...!

drawing speedy is very important for illustrators. so "Shape memorize training" is necessary I think.

" I forgot shape soon if I try it "

Maybe you think so, and I feel it too. But it remains in our brain's some parts.

Sometimes I remember English word when I speak to foreigner, and other times I remember the illustrations that I saw a few decades ago.
So I want to try "Shape memorize training" with hope.

職場での似顔絵の仕事 About likeness works at job

イラストの仕事で特に好きだったのが似顔絵の仕事です。他の仕事より相手や周りがよく反応してくれたからです。

似ていたり面白かったりすると、見せた瞬間パッと表情が明るくなったり笑い出したり。
これがきっかけで仕事以外でも描くようになりました。

でもよくある困ったことが、似顔絵を描く為に渡された写真がハッキリ写っていない事！
ボンヤリ写ったものや小さすぎる写真だと仕上がる似顔絵もそれなりになってしまいます。本当に勿体無い…。

顔が半分しか写っていない写真が送られて来た事もありました。送った側は、顔は左右対称だから半分でもいいと思ったのかもしれませんが、顔が左右対称の人なんていません。


描く時に気をつけていた事は、特徴があっても相手が気にしているであろう部分は誇張しすぎない事でした。描かないよう工夫した描き方もできると思います。例えば歯並びや怪我でできた傷などで、口を閉じた絵を描くとか違う角度から描くなどで対処します。

それから服装や雰囲気から、相手がこんな風に描いたら喜ぶだろうという事をつかんでなるべく絵に反映させるようにしました。

絵が得意な子は回りの人を是非描いてあげて下さい。笑い転げたりキャーキャー騒いで喜んだりする姿を見ると、今までのデッサンなどの苦労が吹っ飛びます！モチベーションのキープにもなるので誕生日やイベントのタイミングで渡すといいと思いますよ。

ただし描かれるのが苦手という人も一部いるのでそれは人を選んで下さい。冗談の通じるような人ならOKです！

無償で描くのは学生の間だけにしたほうがいいかもしれません。時間がかかるものだと思わない人が多いようで、中には仕事ならば5万円ほど取れる内容で無料で描いてくれと頼まれた事もありました…

美大を卒業したら美術の事は何でも出来ると思われてしまう Many people think when you graduate art school, you can do "anything" about art

周りが美術関係ばかりという環境から抜け出し、入社後に驚いたことが、「美大を卒業したら美術の事は何でも出来ると思われてしまう」事。

服のデザイン、デッサン、日本画、洋画、デザイン、彫刻、ロゴ制作、イラスト…

全部なんてできません。

オリンピックの選手も高飛び、水泳、カヌー、フェンシング、体操、ゴルフ…全部できないのと同じだと思います。基本は自分の専門分野か、それに近い分野のみです。

特に、リクエストされたイラストをサラサラっと誰でも描けると思っている人は多いようです。私もいきなり

「ドナルドダック描いて」

と言われて

「うーーーん」

と唸ってしまった経験があります。

私は大学時代イラストとは関係ないコースの専攻で、イラストは会社に入ってから描き始めました。なので描かれたドナルドはかなり微妙でした。

それに、今でも見ないと描けません。前の記事に描いたような子もいますが、ほとんどの人にとって難しいように感じます。

イラストの仕事の流れ Illustration work flow

私が社会人の頃会社で描いていたイラストは本当にいろいろで、頼まれれば何でも描くといった感じでした。

サラリーマン、口笛を吹く男性、家族、ペット、虫、医療品関係、泥棒、手品をする女性、調理器具、生活用品、工具… etc

これらの仕事は社内の営業さんがお客さんから貰ってきます。絵だけを描いてお客さんに渡す仕事は少なく、大抵冊子やチラシ全体を作り、イラストはその中の一部になります。

例えば冊子を作るとすると、まず仕事をどう進めるか決めて管理する人に回り、
「この時期にお客さんに商品を渡すから、絵を完成させるのはこの人でこの時間まで、文章を組むのはこの人でこの時間まで」
などとスケジュールを組んでもらいます。

そして私が説明を受けイラストの仕事を始め、まずは大抵ラフ（下描き）をお客さんに見てもらいます。私の会社はラフで実績（仕事の成績）を付けられず、このラフのやり直しが多いと仕事をしていないのと同じ状態でした。

お客さんからラフのOKが出るとそれをスキャナーに取り込んでパソコンで着色をしていきます。

出来上がったデータを管理担当の人とお客さんに見てもらい、OKが出たら冊子のデータに組み込んでデータや印刷物をお客さんに提出します。



これが私のイラストの仕事の大まかな内容でした。

会社員ではなくフリー場合、こういった流れのすべてを自分でやらなければならないのでとても大変だと思います。

フリーで働く人も、初めからではなくどこかの会社に勤めてから独立（フリーになる）する事が多いです。

My illustration works variation in company were all kinds of things, so I drew anything if I asked.
Office worker, whistling man, family, pets, bug, medical supplies, thief, woman preforming magic tricks, kitchenware, daily necessities, tools.....etc.

company sales staff take those works by client. It's rare to draw illustration only. Generally, I made whole flier and booklet, and illustration is the part of it.
  
When we made booklet, the work turn to manager who decide how to drive the work. 

"We have to turn in this product on this time, so the illustration have to finish until this time by this person.  set up for printing is this person, until this time...."

And I take explain about work, then get down to business. 
First of all, I draw rough illustration and ask a customer for confirmation.
My company couldn't get performance-point to rough illustration, so it's work was same was No-performance.

After get a green light from client, I scan rough illustration, and color it with PC.
Take check the finished illustration by manager and client.
After get OK, I put it in booklet data. 
As a last work, we turn in printings (and completed data.)

This is all work flow about my illustration job.

If I work as freelance illustrator, I have to cope with all these works by myself. It' so tough!


There are many people work as a freelance, but not from the beginning. As a rule, many people belong to company, and after gain experience in the field, they quit there and work as a freelancer.

気になる就職の話 About employment

中学生の頃に気になったのが美術系に進んだ場合のお給料、そしてどれくらいの人がそういった仕事に就けるのかでした。


他の大学の人からも「先生になる位しかないよね？」と言われたし、近所のおばさん達にも「仕事って結局あったの？貯金できてる？食べれてる？」と聞かれました。


ですが、周りの就職活動をしていた友人知人は皆就職できました。美術系の就職先ではない子も中にはいましたが、服飾デザイン、ゲームの背景、デザイン事務所、雑貨のパッケージデザインなど様々です。お金持ちの子は大学院に行ったり就職せず自宅で何やら制作していたり。


就職すること自体は、回りの人が思っているほど出来ないわけではないと思いました。（就職活動はもちろん結構大変ですが）
周りの人は芸術家になる事を目指しているととらえ違えて進路を反対するのでしょう。


ただ、就職した後ずっと続けられる人は少ないかもしれません。殆どの人が結婚で会社を辞めていくと聞いたし、同じ制作関係の仕事をしていた子持ちのママさんも「あのままじゃ家庭が崩壊するよね～」と言っていて、あーやっぱり難しいのか…としみじみ思いました。


もし結婚もして仕事も続けるならば、在宅でネット経由でできるものを一生懸命探すか自宅でお絵かき教室をするなどになるのかと思います。

When I was junior high school student, I worried about salary when  I go art course way. And wondered how many students could take job about art.

Other university friends said 
" You've got no choice but to be teacher "

And my neighbor aunt said
" So..., Could you find job?? "

But all friends who hunting for a job around me could get employment in the end. 
Some people were not creative job, but others are Fashion designer, Game background painter, Design office staff, variety package designer ...there are many jobs.

Only a few wealthy peoples were go to graduate school, or creative something at their house.

Hunting job is hard, but get job in itself is not impossible as many people think of it. maybe, many people around you oppose your career pursue because of misunderstand that you aim to be an artist.

However, I think only few people can continue job after entering company. Almost people quit job because of getting married.
My friend who have a children and did creative work in past, also said 
"If I keep going on the job, family will broke!!"

I thought keenly it's hard  to continue it.

If you want to continue the job after married, You'd better search job that can work at your home or open painting class in your house... I think.

お給料はどれ位？! How much is the salary?!

お給料は…少ないです！でも、食べてはいけたし貯金もできました。節約すべきところを節約すれば、普通に生活できます。

進路を中学生で決める時、やはり将来のお給料面で美術系の高校に進む事はためらいました。公務員や、理系から進む道が安心かなぁと漠然と思っていたんです。でも知り合いが美術大学出身で、

「お金持ちにはなれないよ。でも食べては行ける。」

と言われて、
「うーん、やっぱり行きたい！駄目になっても、その時はその時！」と思うようになって決めました。

貯金まで出来たのは、一人暮らしをした時の家賃が安かった事、当時は病気ではなかった事が大きかったと思います。お部屋探しは根気よくした方がいいですよ。

他具体的に私がしていた節約は…

• 服はフリマで買っていました。
• それほど仲の良くない知り合いとの飲み会、お食事会などは行かなかった
• 趣味にお金を掛けなかった…というより掛からなかった
• 家のパソコンをネットに繋いでいなかった
• いつまでもガラケーだった

といった感じです。お菓子を食べたり友達と遊びに出かける事は出来ました。

ただ、この頃はまだ独身でしたし、若いうちだから問題なく生活できたというのもあると思います。



だから、ものすごーく絵が好きで才能があるか、お友達や家族と遊んでいてもそれだけではいまいち生活に充足感の得られないタイプかのどちらかの場合にこの進路を視野に入れていいと思います。

後者は例えば、運動会、合唱コンクールや遠足で皆が本当に楽しそうに準備、参加しているのにいまいち馴染めないとか、一人で黙々と何かをするのが得意といった感じでしょうか。

沢山調べて考え抜いた後、最終的には直感というか「うーーん、なんかこっちな気がする！えいっ！」と決めた方が正しい進路なのかなと思っています。

あなたがもしこの進路に進むか迷っているなら、いろんな人と関わって話を聞いたり時間を置いてみたりして自分にあった進路を見つけてください。

The salary is....low! but I could live on my salary, and I could save the money.
Don't live on luxury, it's possible to live normal life.

When I decide what the career pursue to take in junior high school, I hesitated to choose art high school because of salary in future.
I was vaguely thinking about public staff or science course job.

But my acquaintance who graduate art college said,

"You wouldn't be lich, but you can live"

so I thought,

"Ummmm.....I want to go art high school! If all else fails, What will be, will be!"

After all, I decided to go there.


"Low rent" & "not had illness" was the big deal to save money in spite of this work for me. So you should looking for a room patiently.

other saving method is ....

• Buy clothes at flea market
• Don't go casual acquaintance gathering
• Don't spend money for hobby....rather than it doesn't cost much.
• Don't connect PC to internet
•  use flip phone

something like that. Other, I could go out with friends, and buy sweets.

However, I was single and young at that time, that the reason I could live with out any problems.

So, I recommend to choose this way if you have talent and wrapped up into it or you can't feel fullness even if you do something with your friends or family . 

For example, let's say you attend school events like Sports day or choir contest, and other friends are very adapt to the occasion, even though you feel like something wrong at there. Or you are suitable to working alone in silence.

After you search enough and think thoroughly, eventually thing is just sort of instinct. 
"Ummmm....maybe....this way!!" 
this determine is right. I think.

If you can't made up your mind what career pursue to take, try interacting with many people, and might be better to take a moment.
