「王子様がお城に向かっている森の風景が描けない…」
「05 王子とオーロラのカード」を作り終えた時も、背景がなんだかな…と思っていました。高校で静物画のデッサンや色面構成などしてきたけれど、「幻想的な風景」「夕暮れの田舎道」「ポップな色合いのイラスト」「こってりニュアンスカラーのイラスト」「ブルー基調のお洒落なイラスト」などは描いてきませんでした。そもそもちゃんと「イラスト」を描いてこなかった。
そこで、暫くぬりえとカードの制作をストップし、半年以上模写（写真や参考書の模写も含む）をしてきました。
ここでは、使用した画用紙についてと、効率の良い模写のちょっとしたコツなどをお伝えします。
画家を目指しているような方には参考にならないと思いますが、「いつも女の子のイラストを描いているけど、もっといろいろ描けるようになりたい」と思っている子や、「芸術寄りではないイラストレータ―だけれど、描けるものを広げたい」と思っている方には参考になるかもしれません。
私が半年間模写してきたものは、西洋の風景画、水彩風景画の参考書（写真左）、画集（写真右）、動物の描きかた参考書（写真中央）や、twitterで見つけた最近の方が描いたイラストなどです。

「見せるための絵」として描くわけではないので、時間をとる割に得られるものがないと思ったものはラフで終了させてたりと、とにかく効率よく技術が得られるようにしました。
＜ スケッチブックについて ＞
スケッチブックは安い定番のこれをユザワヤで買いました。大きすぎず小さすぎないサイズ。2冊同時に使用し、片方の絵が乾くまでにもう片方の色塗りをしていました。
あまり水たっぷりではない2塗りまでなら問題無く、3度塗りした辺りで紙がかすれる事もあるような感じでした。水を最初に敷いてからグラデーションを描いた時は最初の時点で紙が剥けてしまいました。
ですので、絵画っぽく塗り重ねるのならある程度の厚みがある画用紙を使った方がよさそうです。また、大きな紙に描く場合、厚みがある紙であっても「水張り」をきちんとして紙が波打たないようにした方がいいです。
絵の具は2度塗りした辺りから水彩画の良さが出てくると感じるので、私は大体、風景画なら遠くの部分は1度塗り、それ以外は2度塗り＋細かな描きこみを3度目として、目的の表現になるようにしていました。

I can't illustrate landscape scene that prince heading to the castle....
When I finished "05 PRINCE AND AURORA CARD", I just feel the same feeling...
I learned "still life" sketching/dessin and color composition at high school, but I haven't illustrate "dream-like atmosphere landscape" ,"Country road in the dusk" ,"Pop color illustration" ,"Thick neutral color illustration" ,"Blue based color cool illustration"....etc....In the first place, I haven't draw properly "Illustration" so far.

Therefore, I stopped making colorings and greeting cards for a while, and tried reproduction(include photos, reference books etc) more than half a year.
Here I'll introduce sketch book and little tip of efficient way of reproduction.
Perhaps, my introductions are not helpful if you aim for professional painter, but if you feel
"Always draw "girls", but I want to be able to draw more"
or
"I'm not artist-ish illustrator, but I want to be able to expand what I draw"
, maybe it will be helpful for you.
What I drew half a year is, "Western landscape paintings", "water-color art landscape reference books (left one on the picture)","Art book (right one on the picture)", "How to draw animals reference book (middle of the picture)", and recent illustrations that I found on twitter.

Not draw for purpose of "show to somebody", so I felt taking too much time to reproduction from the illustration, I finished up it on "rough-drawing step/phase" to get technique efficiently.

I bought this cheap & popular one on Yuzawaya (Japanese handcraft materials shop. some shop selling drawing tools too. But if you live in Japan, you don't need to go there, maybe you can get it neighbor variety store ). Not too big, and not too small size. I used two sketch books simultaneously because I can draw another one until draw wet one will dry.
If you give not too much water, put twice coats are no problem, when give 3rd coats, sometime paper is rub. Give water supply at first to make gradation, the paper was rubbed from the beginning.
so if you want to painting more heavily, you'd better use thick one to a certain extent. And if you want to use large paper, if even it's thick one, you should do "stretching Watercolor paper" to prevent paper winkles
I feel watercolor's goodness appear after twice paint, so I mostly paint only once paint for landscape's distant place, other than that are twice paint, and draw third paint for a fine touch to reach purpose expression.

＜ Tip for reproduction ＞
To draw efficiently, you'd better do following things.
① If you can't take much time, trimming the illustration that your needed point.
② If the illustration have not good point, you can change it with reference books.
③ The tone of the color, sunlight of sunset scene, night scene's rays of light, pen drawing touch... Please aware of what you want to get from the illustration.
Please write down what you notice on every works. "Don't have to note, I want to draw next one soon", You might feel so, but you'd better write down it. Because when you start writing, impressions are coming up from your brain. And you can notice your habits. Add to that, you don't need to have same mistake.
